JIM REED // LEAD PASTOR

I was born and raised in Chicago, but have been in the South most of my adult life. I have been married to the best woman on the planet for 28 years (Stephanie), and together we have three incredible kids, an equally incredible son-in-law and daughter-in-law, and three dogs.  I graduated from the University of Florida with a B.A. in English, and received my Masters in Biblical Studies from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville.  Stephanie and I have served churches in South Carolina, Ohio, Florida and Virginia. You can follow me on Twitter (@nebiim) or on Instagram (1nebiim2).

Who is the most influential person in your life?  Like I could keep it to one! But right off the top...my wife, Stephanie.  My dad, Tom (also a pastor). Alistair Duckworth, a professor at UF that probably doesn’t even remember me.  Bob Hamp and a bunch of freedom ministers at Gateway Church...and the list could go on and on.

What inspires you?  A group of people in and around Ouanaminthe, Haiti who are doing God’s work in hell’s foyer.  Churches that are doing what it takes to make a difference in our generation.  Really good parents. Old people who love young people.  Hearing from people in my church family who are experiencing life change as they follow Jesus.

What do you like to do apart from ministry?  I love to cook, have family dinners, read (mysteries, personal growth, and spiritual journey stuff), golf, watch sports with my boys, play guitar, listen to jazz…

One item on your bucket list:  Take a literary tour of the UK.

Little known fact about you: Once met George W. Bush in person.

Other than the Bible, your favorite book is…? Again, are you kidding? I can only name one? But if my life depended on naming one book it would be “The Great Divorce” by C.S. Lewis.

What’s on your Media Device? A bunch of classic rock (i.e. Eagles, Journey, Billy Joel), jazz (i.e. Coltrane, Pass, Carlton), blues (Clapton, Bonamassa, SRV) old country (i.e. Haggard, Gosdin, Waylon), a lot of contemporary worship music (Gateway, Bethel, Hillsong), and some Sinatra…for starters.

Your favorite date restaurant? At the moment, I would say The Green Valley Grill (it is subject to change).

On a more regular basis, you order (a) WHAT when you go (b) WHERE?(a) Venti Breve Latte  (b) Starbucks

Guilty pleasure: Dr. Who and “Copa Cabana”

Who do you root for? Bears, Bulls, Cubs, Blackhawks, Gators, and the Gamecocks (when they’re not playing UF)

Who do you follow on Twitter? C.S. Lewis, G.K. Chesterton, A.W. Tozer, Brian Houston, Jim Gaffigan, Norman Chad...for starters.

What preachers/writers (dead or alive) do you go out of your way to listen to or read? C.S. Lewis, Francis Chan, Bill Johnson, Jack Hayford, Dallas Willard, Robert Morris, Jimmy Evans, Henry Cloud, G.K. Chesterton, Dorothy Sayers, Stephen Hunter, Raymond Chandler.
